Malloy’s senior advisor, Roy Occhiogrosso, said in March that the governor might have met and spoken with Herold when she attended one or more of his periodic “Mayor’s Night Out” meetings with citizens, but that it was “never about the chimp,” and not on the occasion that Nash mentioned.įor years before that, however, Travis was a minor celebrity and familiar sight in Stamford, riding as a passenger in a tow truck used in a business owned by Herold and her husband called Desire Me Motors. I think it was said that if he got loose again, they were going to shoot him. That denial was issued after Nash, in a Courant interview, had recalled that Herold had told her Malloy “allowed her to take Travis home and said keep him locked up. And he just said, ‘San, do me a favor? Don’t let him get out again.'”Ī: “Couldn’t have been too long after the incident.”Ī top aide to the governor told The Courant in March that Malloy had never talked to Herold about Travis. Q: “And you had a conversation with him?”Ī: “A good conversation. Q: “And when did you have this contact with Mayor Malloy?”Ī: “We used to take Travis for a ride every night and a lot of times went by his home.” Herold said she talked with Malloy shortly after Travis escaped from Herold’s SUV in October 2003 in Stamford’s downtown area and evaded capture by police until he got tired of romping over cars in the street - and then buckled himself back into the seat of Herold’s vehicle. The newly released Herold transcript covers subjects from the chimp’s sleeping in her bed - “every single night,” she testified - to a conversation Herold said she had about nine years ago with then-Stamford MayorDannel P. Other sworn depositions were reported in the Sunday Courant Government Watch column. But it hasn’t all been in Herold’s words, as it is in the transcript of Herold’s testimony, which was included in a second round of deposition excerpts released this week by the state attorney general’s office at The Courant’s request.
